MEASUREMENT METHODOLOGY
Transparency is part of the product. Every public metric on this site is defined below. When a number is unavailable or an estimate, we label it — we never invent data.
Tracked impressions
An impression is counted when the advertisement is at least 50% visible in the visitor's viewport, continuously for at least 1 second. Each visitor session is counted once per campaign (deduplicated by an anonymous session token), so refreshing the page does not inflate the numbers. Measurement is performed in the browser via the IntersectionObserver API and recorded server-side.
On the homepage Attention Map, the same rule applies to each block on its own: a block's impression counts once that block is at least 50% visible for 1 continuous second. Blocks are small, so a map view is a lighter kind of attention than a full banner — which is why blocks are priced from $5.
Clicks
A click is recorded when a visitor presses VISIT WEBSITE on an advertisement. The request goes through a server-side redirect endpoint (/c/:campaign) which validates the campaign, records the click with an anonymous session token and the referrer (where provided), and then redirects the visitor to the advertiser's destination in a new tab. Only clicks on live campaigns are counted.
Like impressions, clicks are deduplicated per anonymous session: one visitor counts as one click per campaign, no matter how many times they press the button. Without that rule any advertiser could inflate their own click count — and therefore their CTR and their place on the leaderboard — by reloading the redirect, so the number would mean nothing. The redirect itself always works; deduplication only decides whether the click is counted.
CTR
CTR = clicks ÷ tracked impressions × 100. If either number is zero, CTR is shown as “—” rather than a misleading value.
Video metrics
For video creatives we track, per anonymous session per campaign: video starts (the visitor begins playback) and completion milestones at 25%, 50%, 75% and 100% of the video duration. Completion rate = 100% completions ÷ video starts. Raw video starts are never mixed with display impressions or presented as “views”.
Live visitors
The LIVE VISITORS number is directly measured: it counts distinct anonymous session tokens that sent a presence heartbeat within the last 3 minutes. When no recent heartbeats exist the UI shows “unavailable” rather than a fabricated figure. We do not estimate or model this number.
Expected impressions
Expected impressions are estimates computed from this property's measured, first-party traffic history (tracked impressions per position per hour of day). Until at least 24 hours of real history exist for a position, no expected figure is shown — you will see “history n/a” or “traffic history unavailable” instead. Expected impressions are never presented as guarantees.
Peak pricing
Peak multipliers and peak hours may only be set from real historical traffic patterns. Until that history exists, peak pricing is inactive and no PEAK badge is displayed anywhere.
Deduplication and privacy
We store an anonymous random session token per browser. We do not store raw IP addresses, we do not fingerprint devices, and we do not build personal profiles. See Privacy.
Known limitations
- Measurement runs client-side, so ad blockers or very old browsers may undercount.
- Viewability is sampled at 50% threshold per industry convention; it is an approximation of human visibility, not a guarantee.
- Live-visitor presence is per-browser (not per-human); multiple tabs count as one session.
